{Peter Jones' will was written in1772 and letters test. were granted tohis son, Peter, and hi s wife, Ruth, Feb.1, 1773. The will follows:}' 'In the name of God, amen. I, Peter Jones of 'Emity' Township, inthe county of Berks , yeoman, am at present weak in body but of sound anddisposing mind and memory blessed be Go d therefore do this 29 day of Mayin the year of our Lord 1772 do make and publish this my las t will andtestament. In manner and form following First and principally recommendmy soul to A lmight God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buriedin a decent and Christian-like ma nner at the discretion of my exectuorsherein after named.' 'Item: It is my will and hereby order that in the first place allmy just debts tha t I shall ow at the time of my decease together with myfuneral charges be duly paid and satis fied as soon as conveniently can bedone after my decease. ' 'Item: I give and bequeat unto my beloved wife Ruth Jones thefront room of my new dwe lling house for her one use to live in as long asshe remains my widow, and further, I give an d bequeath unto my said wifemy bed, bedstead and all the furniture hereunto belongin and by b lackwallnut case a drawers and one milch cow to be one of choice out of all my cattle and myblack wallnut nobl e table and three of my best chairs, iron pot of herchoice, two pewter dishes, six pewter pla tes, three small basens, my teakittle, and my best tea pott and six spoons and her saddle an d the foruthrow of apple trees from the meadow to John Kirlin's field which is calledthe graf ted row beginning to count on the east side of my own orchard andmy said wife shall have libe rty of part of the celler under the dwellinghouseas much as she shall want for her use. I give, bequeath and devise unto my eldest son Peter Jones my tenement, palntation and tract of land whereon I now live computed to be about one hundred and fifty acres wil l all the buildings and every ofthe appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging (excepting t he libertyand priviledges herein before given and bequeathed to my wife) and heldto him the s aid Peter Jones his heirs and assigns forever and I will andhereby order that my son Peter Jo nes his heirs, executors,administreators or assigns she pay yearley and every year unto my sa idwife Ruth Jones the sum of 7 (?) pounds lawful money and seven bushels of good clean wheat andshall keep her milch co ws summers and winters as good as his own andshall cut and haul her fire wood efficient for h er firing all of which heis to pay and perform yearly as long as she remains my widow but no longer. ' 'Item. I give and bequeath unto my youngest son Ezekial my back plantation whereon Leonard Heilman now liveth to be cut square with myupper line whole break true to contain exactl y eighty acres of land andtwenty acres of clear land out of the back field of my plantation w hereonI now live, the whole to contain one hundred acres of land to hold to himthe said Ezeki al Jones his heirs and assigns from the time as he arrivesto the age twenty-one years from th ence forward forever. But my said wifeshall have five pounds lawful money and five bushels o f good clean wheatfrom said plantation yearly as long as she remains my widow aforesaid. ' 'Item. I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Peter Jones all theremainder of my esta te whatsoever kind it is together with my Negro manand the rent of my plantation which I devi sed to my youngest son Ezekialuntil he arrives at his age aforesaid. But my son Peter Jones s hall payor cause to be paid unto my daughters as shall in this my last will and testamenthereafter be mentione d and all the other res as I shall make, that is tosay to my eldest daughter Catherine, the s um of fifty pounds lawful moneywhich he shall pay to her as followeth, that is to say the su m of tenpounds on demand after my decease and the remainder one year after mydecease and I gi ve her a case a drawers and a black wallnut noble tablewhich I got made for her. ' 'Item. To my daughter Elziabeth the sum of thirty-five poundslawful money to be pai d to her as soon as she arrives to her age of 21years, with lawful interest for the same. ' 'Item. To my daughter Perse the sum of 50 pounds lawful money tobe paid to her as soo n as she arrives to her age of 21 years, with lawfulinterest for the same. ' 'Item. To my daughter Judith the sum of 50 pounds lawful money tobe paid to her whe n she arrives at the full age of 21 years with lawfulinterest for the same and a case a drawe rs which I got made for her. Andfurther I will and hereby order that my said son Peter Jone s shall givemy son Ezekial two years of schooling and provide for him sufficient meatdrink ap parel washing and lodging and at the experation of said two yearsof schooling shall bind hi m to a trade as my son Ezekial shall choose andmy son Peter Jones shall plant or cause to b e planted one hundred graftedyoung apple trees fit to be planted out for an orchard on the la nd whichI devised to my sone Ezekial one year after my decease if it is not donebefore and sh all allow my wife to raise and keep yearly one swine on hispremises aslong and she remains my window and three sheep he shall keep as his ownfor my said wife durin g the time aforesaid and give unto my youngest sonEzekial my big musket gun when he arrives a t the age aforesaid and thenallow my wife the half part of the gardin for her own use durin g the timeshe rmains my widow all the articles which I have given and bequeathed to my saidwife Ruth Jones by thi s my lest will and testment is in lue of her thirdsand dower and lastly I make and ordain m y said wife Ruth Jones and my sonPeter Jones executors of this my last will and testament rev okign andmaking voide all former and other wills by me at anytime eretofore declaring this andno other to be my las t will and testament set my hand and seal this dayfirst above written.(Signed) Peter JonesWitnesses:John KirlinNicholas Bunn' 'Letters Test. granted to Peter Jones and Ruth Jones Feb. 1, 1773.'
