1870 - Oneco, Stephenson, Illinois 1880 - Oneco, Stephenson, Illinois Union Army during the Civil War, mustered out in Baton Rouge, La., Jan 1866 as a 1st Lieutenant. He served from 15 Jul 1861 in Company A 11th Illinois Infantry for 2 yrs and from 12 Dec 1863 in Company D 46th Illinois Infantry. Life's Work is Ended. Lieut. I.M. Bobb Passes Away, Monday Afternoon. The startling news that I.M. Bobb was dead reached Orangeville, from Freeport, late Monday afternoon, and it was a severe shock to relatives and friends. Mr. Bobb's health had not been the best for the past year and during the past five or six weeks he grew considerably worse. Last week he went to Freeport, and an operation for gall stones was advised by the physician. On Saturday afternoon he went to Freeport, and on Monday morning at 8 o'clock he was operated on. Several large gall stones were removed, but upon examination, the real cause of his illness was found to be cancer of the liver. After the operation he seemed to rally, but the cancer had done its deadly work and about 4:10 he died. His wife had been telephoned for and was at his side when death came. During his illness he suffered a great deal, but bore all without complaint. The body was brought here Tuesday morning and the funeral was held from his late home at 1 p.m., Wednesday, and later at the U.B. church, Rev. Busey assisted by Rev. Fanston officiating. Mr. Bobb was a charter member of J. R. Scrogg's lodge, I.O.O.F., and the funeral was in charge of the lodge. He was also a member of the Rebekah lodge, and the G.A.R. Post. On account of the absence of his son Milton, of Taylor, N. Dak., the burial was postponed until Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock, in order that he might be here. Isaac M. Bobb was born in Snyder county, Pa., Dec. 22, 1835, and was the son of David and Eliza (Bingham) Bobb. When but nine yearas of age he came with his parents to Stephenson Co., and during his boyhood he attended athe diacrict school three months, assisting his father in the work upon the farm during the remainder of the year. He remained with his parents until 1854, and then started west and traveled as far as Iowa, engaging in the carpenter trade in Howard County, that State. While there he built the first frame house erected in that county. In 1856 he lived at Locust Lane, Winneshiek Co., Iowa and cast one of the two votes given for Fremont in that precinct. There were no printed ballots, and he wrote both of those cast. In the fall of 1854 he visited the Territory of Minnesota, and soon after Dakota, before it was yet named. He remained in the Northwest until 1861, and then returned to Stephenson County. On the 15th of July, 1861, he enlisted in Co. A, 11th Ill. Inf., and served in that regiment two years, when he was discharged on account of sickness and returned home. He re-enlisted Dec. 12, 1863, in Co. D. 46th Ill. Inf., in which he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant and was later promoted to First Lieutenant. He was mustered out of service at Baton Rouge, LA., in January, 1866. Upon his return home he purchased 120 acres of timberland on section 33, of Oneco Township, on which he built a house and immediatly began the improvement on the farm. |
