Unknown Paper Mrs. Anna Marie Matzke, 66, of Western, died Saturday, October 7, 1961, in the Lincoln General Hospital, Lincoln NE, after several weeks of illness. Mrs. Matzke was born January 1, 1895, in Saline County, on a farm north of Western. She lived with her parents, Franz and Augusta Butt, until the time of her marriage, and attended the county school north of Western; completing an eight grade education. She was married to Gus Matzke on April 11, 1918, a marriage that extended to 43 years of happiness. To this union the Lord sent three children. Arlene, Deloris, and Laila. The couple farmed north of Western until they moved to town in 1948 where they have lived ever since. Besides participating actively in the worship of the church, Mrs. Matzke was active in the Women's Guild. She was baptized March 17, 1895 and confirmed October 25, 1908, in which she became a life long member of St. John's Church. The funeral services were held in St. Johns United Church of Christ of Western on Tuesday, October 10, 1961 at 2 pm. Clergyman was Pastor Harvey Kandler and organist Linda McAdams. Singers were Mrs. Elaine Compton and Mrs. Nancy Kandler, Pallbearers were Lauren Schwisow, Louis Theye, Clarence Matske, Kenneth Butt, Richard Butt and Virgil Butt. Interment was at Plainview Cemetery of Western. The funeral arrangements were by Urbach Funeral Home of Western. The deceased was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Laila and brother Emil of Janesville, WI. Survivors include her husband Gus; two daughters, Mrs. CLarence (Arlene) Sasek of Western, Mrs. Milton (Deloris) Tegtmeier of Plymouth NE, and brother August Butt of Beatrice NE. |
