Notes
![]() Note |
For his anniverary one year he wanted to buy his wife a special present. He had been sick and his son was working the farm. He didn't feel as if he could use the family money to buy the present as he hadn't earned it. he sold something he owned (would never say what) for ten cents. He walked to Juda and purchased a plate with a picture of a pheasant on it. His son Raplh loved to hunt pheasants and would often carry his gun when working the fields. If one flew up, he'd shoot it. Many a day he provided enough pheasants to make a meal for the entire family. Albert (Bert as he was known) was so pleased that hsi wife had presented him with such a fine son, he took this plate to be the perfect gift. Lola kept the plate on her dining room hutch till close to her death. This was a very special plate to her. She gave the plate to Ralph and told him some day it should go to his daugher Dori (author of this genealogy). Ralph kept it for a few years and gave it to Dori after the returned from the Navy. That and the burial flag of her Grandpa Donker or two of her most prized possessions. She also has her Grandpa Copliens harmonicas. Farmed his father's homestead untill retirement when he and his wife moved to 528 8th Ave (?), Monroe WI. The farm was sold outside of the family. Loved to fish. After family holiday meals, Bert would sneak back to his room and play his harmonica while doing his version of a jig. Son Raplh never played the harmonica, but he also did the jig. Wore a full length sleeping gown and a long sleeping hat untill he was placed in a nursing home.
