Isaac DeTurk was born in 1685 in Frankenthal, Germany. He was baptized on 17 Jan 1685 in Frankenthal, Germany. He emigrated in 1709 from New York. He died in 1727 in Oley Township, Berks Co., PA. He was buried in DeTurck #1 Burial Ground, Oley Township, PA. Isaac arrived in New York towne in 1708 on the ship Globe. On board the ship with him was the widow Anna Maria Von Weimer, a daughter of Jean DeHarcourt, and her two year old daughter Catherine; and Isaac's sister Esther. Isaac stayed in Esopus, Duchess Co. NY where there was a settlement of Huguenots on the Hudson River. Isaac and Anna Maria were married in New York in 1709. In 1711 he left New York for the Oley Valley in Pennsylvania. He was granted 300 acres of land on June 11, 1712. He was married to Anna Maria De Harcourt (daughter of Jean De Harcourt) in 1709. Anna Maria De Harcourt(1) was born about 1687 in Europe. She died in 1761 in Oley Township, Berks Co., PA. She was buried in De Turck #1 Burial Ground, Oley Township, PA. -- Isaac DeTurk, the first American ancestor of this old established American family, was born in 1686. He landed at new York with his sister Esther about 1707, settled at Esophus and was among the settlers of Quassick Creek, Dutchess Co., NY in 1709. But June 11, 1712, the Commissioners of Pennsylvania (province) issued a warrant to him for 300 acres of land out at a place called ''Oley'', of which locality this is the first mention. In this warrant he is mentioned as ''late of Franklin-thal, in Germany.'' He was married to Maria Gerber (possibly in New York), who bore him three children: Catharine, who m. Abraham Levan; John, who m. Deborah Hoch or High; and Esther, who m. Abraham Bertolet. Maria (Gerber) DeTurk had been married previously to a Mr. Vemar, and had a daughter, who m. a Mr. Bertolet. Isaac DeTurk bequeathed his entire landed estate to his son John, who paid his sisters their proportionate parts according to appraisement.ANNALS OF OLEY VALLEY The Deturck Family The name DETURCK (DETURK) is indelibly stamped upon Oley Valley genealogy. For considerably over 200 years there never was a time when some dwellers of this name were not spoken to and about by other Oley citizens as ''neighbors''. The members of the family seem to the manor born. They have proven themselves good citizens and so by God's good providence the stock has not died out, nor is it in immediate danger as far as that is concerned. The American progenitor, Isaac DETURCK, was another of the Huguenot fugitives to America, who left their native land because of religious persecution. He hailed from Picardy, France, lived temporarily in the Frackenthal of the Palatinate, and came across the waters with Rev Joshua KOCHERTHAL's followers, which were favored by Queen Anne, of England, and in 1708 transported to her colony on the Hudson. There were about 30 or 35 people under the spiritual guidance of Pastor KOCHERTHAL, who first settled on Quassack Creek, at what is now Newburgh on the Hudson. Some soon went farther north to Esopus, where there was gathering a nucleus settlement of Huguenots. Among these colonists was a widow of 37 years of age, with an only daughter of 2 years. The widow was Mrs Marie WEIMER, nee DEHERO- KEN (HARCOURT), a descendant of French nobles. After a sojourn in the Palatinate for some years, marriage and the death of her husband, she accepted Queen Anne's offer, and with her child, Catharine, joined the emigrants for America.
